Grocery App

Overview

A grocery shopping app with accessibility at the forefront.  Shopping Pal is an app that allows you to create a living grocery list, meaning after you’ve picked the store you’d like to shop in, it lets you know if something on your list is out of stock. It also comes with a map of the store and pinpoints where your items are located.

Interest & Values:

A family guy who works at a factory with 3 kids and no time to clip coupons nor think of recipes beforehand. He's looking to get a good deal and a quick meal. Bill doesn't like wasting time in the store looking for items that are out of stock.

  • Save as much money on groceries

  • Wants to get in and out of the store

Desires:

  • To find quick and easy recipes

  • Shop autonomously w/o help

Pain Points:

  • Finding items without talking to employees

  • Finding recipes with the groceries she has

Strategy:

This project was born out of an application into a UX program. I decided to take on the responsibility of creating a grocery store mobile app that could help shoppers be more efficient in their coupon, product, and recipe search. This app also demonstrates accessibility features for people who are hard of hearing, vision impaired, and people on the spectrum.

Thinking of ways to help make people on the spectrum more comfortable with everyday tasks was at the forefront of my mind. Having had temporary disabilities I incorporated those experiences into how an app could have helped me shop for groceries whole in the grocery store.

This project also happened before Walmart and Target started sharing their floorplan layout on their app. I was excited to see my ideation in motion via their apps.

Reflection:

I really enjoyed creating an app with accessibility at the forefront. Every design I think of starts is inspired from questions non-tech-savvy people would ask. For example, I'd like to create an app that someone's grandmother can download and not have to call their kin for tech support.
